Are you interested in working for a world top 100 university? We are seeking an outstanding early-career researcher wishing to contribute to a range of mixed-methods health services research projects and clinical services. You will join the research group of Professor Christopher McDermott at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) to work on clinical research projects focusing on the supportive and symptomatic management of people with motor neuron disease (pwMND) and other neurodegenerative disorders.
Job description:
- Contribute to data collection, analysis and dissemination of various projects including systematic reviews, questionnaire surveys, interviews, focus groups, and process evaluations, involving pwMND, their informal carers and healthcare professionals.
- Work in collaboration with MyPathway and National Institute for MND Research partners to develop a research pathway (TiM- Research) alongside the TiM clinical pathway.
- Work in collaboration with MND centres/networks, pwMND and carers using co-design techniques to further develop and evaluate a telehealth system.
- Work in collaboration with MND centres/network governance teams and complete necessary documents under supervision to further implement the TiM system as a clinical service.
- Write documents contributing to and supporting the work of the research group, e.g. SOPs, interim reports, reports.
- Work according to GCP and research governance standards for clinical trials/studies.
- Ensure the completion of all tasks in a timely manner and follow agreed reporting procedures and timelines for the studies.
- Attend clinical research team meetings.
- Read academic papers, journals and textbooks to keep abreast of developments and use this information to brief colleagues and inform the work of the project.
- Provide support for research colleagues in their absence.
- Travel to other areas of the UK to conduct field research and assist in telehealth implementation. Travel is occasional and arrangements will be flexible.
- Understand and adhere to NHS Trust/University policies and procedures.
- Ensure that NHS Trust/University wide standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of care to all those who come in contact with the service provided by Sheffield.
- Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. The post holder has responsibility for safety as outlined in the hospital’s policy and Health and Safety Work Act 1974.
- To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- To ensure that the views of consumers are effectively sought, channelled and acted upon, including the efficient actioning of the complaints procedure in accordance with the Trust policy in conjunction with the supervising consultant neurologist.
- As a member of staff you will be encouraged to make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible.
- Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post.
- Contribute to the design and analysis of a range of research projects including qualitative studies, surveys, process evaluations, and systematic reviews.
- Lead on completing clinical governance documents to further implement the TiM system as a clinical service.
- Contribute to funding applications to support future projects developed by the team.
- Contribute to academic writing for high-quality publication.
- Supervise Masters dissertation research projects.
- Plan research activities and review progress on a regular basis in collaboration with other members of the team.
