About the role

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research post funded by Cancer Research UK. The project will focus to developing an analytical method to identify aldehyde cancer biomarkers using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The work will involve identifying novel aldehyde-selective scavenging small molecules and then profiling their applicability for GC/MS-based aldehyde detection in biological samples.

The candidate will be a key member of a collaborative research team based at Leicester’s state-of-the-art Henry Wellcome Building and at the newly opened Space Park Leicester facility. The work will be conducted within the new Leicester Institute of Structural and Chemical Biology (LISCB), which is a cross-disciplinary entity that brings together internationally renowned research in chemical and biological sciences at the University of Leicester into a single world-leading unit.

About you

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining, a doctorate in Chemistry or another related field. They should also have previous experience at doctoral or postdoctoral level with mass spectrometry methods (preferably GC/MS), while an interest in biologically relevant chemistry and human tissue culture is preferable.
