The Role

We wish to appoint a Research Associate to support the impact and engagement project On-Site/Off-Site: Thomas Bewick and contemporary art at National Trust Cherryburn. This is a one-year AHRC funded project that seeks to address the issue of the long-term legacy of temporary site-specific art commissions by realising the potential of digital space for audience development within the heritage sector. In so doing, it will open up new ways for heritage organisations to diversify their audience and to maximise their investment in contemporary art practice. This project arises from the findings of the 2017-20 Mapping Contemporary Art in the Heritage Experience research project which demonstrated the benefit of contemporary art interventions for heritage audiences.

Based in the School of Arts and Cultures , and working with other members of the research team your role will be to contribute to the delivery, administration, and evaluation of the On-Site/Off-Site project. As a member of the project team, you will work closely with our partner heritage organisations and with the artists and design companies contracted to deliver the digital artworks that will be commissioned as part of the project. You will also plan and conduct user evaluation of the digital artworks and will support the delivery of online and in-person events and other key dissemination outputs.

As part of our commitment to career development for research colleagues, the University has developed 3 levels of research role profiles . These profiles set out firstly the generic competences and responsibilities expected of role holders at each level and secondly the general qualifications and experiences needed for entry at a particular level.

This post is 0.2fte (1 day/7.4 hours per week) and the working day may be negotiated at appointment. The start date is 1 March 2023 and is fixed term until 8 January 2024.

Informal enquiries may be made to Prof Vee Pollock at [email protected] .
