Job description

Job Purpose
You will contribute to a project Wellcome funded CONNECT study working Professor Andrew Gumley as part of the Psychosis Research Group within the School of Health and Wellbeing. The CONNECT study will recruit individuals with psychosis and use smartphone apps to actively and passively collected data using a prospective observational cohort study design. We will use these data to develop and validate a personalised risk prediction algorithm for relapse. Additionally, we want to maximise engagement and information obtained from digital remote monitoring by asking the right questions, at the right frequency and time.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Perform the following activities in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Principal/Co Investigator:
1. Plan and conduct assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables of the Wellcome CONNECT Study.
2. To assist the Research Co-ordinator, Project Manager and other research group members in the planning of research.
3. Work closely with the Manchester-based Research Co-ordinator and Project Manager, and the other study site research assistants.
4. Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
5. Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of The University of Glasgow, School of Health and Wellbeing, Psychosis Research Group, including contributing to publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
6. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
7. Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.
8. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/ group/ meetings/ seminars/ workshops across the research group and wider community.
9. Contribute to the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.
10. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the Wellcome CONNECT research team and the research group, including assisting with the writing of reports for submission to research sponsors and presentation material.
11. Carry out modest Teaching activities [e.g. demonstrating etc.] and associated admin as assigned by the Head of School and in consultation with Principal Investigator.
12. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
13. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
14. Support and promote patient and public involvement across the whole project.
15. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
16. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1 SCQF Level 10 [Honours degree] in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or equivalent
A2 Up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge in working with people with severe mental health problems, particularly people who experience psychosis
Desirable
B1 An awarded [or recently submitted or near completion] PhD in subject specialism or equivalent
Skills
Essential
C1 Proven ability to use initiative to efficiently plan, optimise and progress project and communicate findings.
C2 Proven time management skills including ability to manage own workload within defined parameters and adhere to agreed timelines.
C3 IT skills (e.g. SPSS or equivalent statistical package, Nvivo qualitative data software).
C4 Proven ability to work effectively as a team member as well as working alone.
C5 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with colleagues at all levels.
C6 Understanding of confidentiality and protocols for ethics and data protection.
C7 Flexible approach to dealing with research problems as they arise.
C8 Ability to use initiative to efficiently plan, optimise and progress projects.
C9 Excellent organisation skills and demonstrable initiative.
C10 The candidate must also be able to travel to different research sites.
Experience
Essential
E1 Experience of using psychological self report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with people with severe mental health problems.
E2 Experience working with people with severe mental health problems in an NHS context.
Desirable
F1 Experience with, and commitment to, patient and public engagement and non-academic dissemination of research study findings.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £30,502 - £34,308 per annum.
This post is full time, and has funding up to 31 December 2026.
