Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair based in the Department of Life Sciences. You will undertake research in a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment with an excellent international reputation.

About the job:

This post has arisen as a result of a Wellcome Trust/Royal Society Sir Henry Dale Fellowship awarded to Dr. David Gurevich, and is essential to a programme of work that builds on previous investigations (Gurevich et al, 2018, EMBOJ, e97786) to explore the regulation of inflammation and angiogenesis during wound healing, and how these fail in the context of compromised wounds such as those that develop in diabetes.

You will have a central role in completing an exciting programme of research to understand the mechanisms underlying crucial tissue repair responses, using both in vivo zebrafish and in vitro human tissue co-culture assays. More broadly, you will have responsibility for enabling and supporting the ultimate research aims of the laboratory: translating these basic science findings to facilitate the development of novel therapies and clinical practice.

About you:

A degree in biological or biomedical science is essential, as is experience and demonstrated competence in bench work and molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR and qTR-PCR, cloning, DNA/RNA extraction). Experience in genetic manipulation (e.g. CRISPR gene editing, transgenesis), working with zebrafish, and analysis of large datasets (e.g. RNAseq transcriptomics, proteomics) are highly desirable.

Excellent microscopy and imaging skills (both live and fixed samples), fluorescent activated cell sorting (FACS), in vitro work with human tissue culture models, flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry are desirable. You must also have excellent laboratory organisational and communication skills as the post includes laboratory management duties. Crucially, you must be a problem solver and a self-starter, as abilities to supervise and train colleagues as well as work independently will also be required.

Further information:

This is a full-time post for a fixed-term period of 2 years, with potential for further extension.

During the selection process, you will be expected to give a short presentation on your previous research experience.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Dr Gurevich ([email protected]), however, please submit your application via the University website.

  • a very generous employer contributory pension scheme;
  • generous annual leave allowance with an additional 5 discretionary days so that you can enjoy a positive work life balance;
