Job description

The Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health (NDWRH) have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant in Ovarian Tissue Culture with a passion and enthusiasm for conservation.
Many species of rhinoceros are critically endangered with just two females remaining of the Northern White Rhino. Therefore, it is critical to develop fertility preservation techniques for rhinos, however, very little is known about ovarian function in these species.
The aim of this project is to develop techniques to develop rhinoceros eggs from cryopreserved ovarian tissues.
Reporting to Prof. Suzannah Williams, the post holder will be a member of her research group with responsibility for the analysis of fixed ovarian rhino tissue as well as optimising techniques to develop rhino follicles in vitro with analysis of function and quality. The focus is to optimise novel culture techniques to develop mature rhino ovarian follicles from primordial follicles in cryopreserved ovarian tissue.
The suitable candidate will hold a degree along with relevant experience in a biological subject, be skilled in tissue/organ/organoid/scaffold/cell culture techniques and show flexibility to learn new skills and develop novel approaches for analysis.
The post-holder will be self-motivated, an excellent communicator and have the ability to work independently as well as in a team. They will have the experience to write for publication, present research proposals and the ability to bring forward ideas for new research projects.
The post is offered on a full-time, fixed term basis. The post is available as soon as possible and is fixed for 2 years.
Applications for flexible working arrangements are welcomed and will be considered in line with business needs.
You will be required to upload a CV and Supporting Statement, listing each of the criteria in turn, and explain briefly how your skills and experience match these requirements as part of your online application. Click here for information and advice on writing an effective Supporting Statement.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Monday 3rd April 2023 and the first round of interviews will commence on Thursday 13th April, later followed by the second round of interviews on Tuesday 25th April 2023.
