Job description

We are seeking a creative and motivated Research Assistant to join Prof Timothy O'Leary's research group in the Department of Engineering. The position involves contributing to an international collaboration funded by the Kavli Foundation to understand how environmental perturbations such as temperature change affect the nervous systems of marine animals. The specific goal for this position is to develop and apply data assimilation algorithms to a realtime model of a small neural circuit, using data gathered from our collaborator's lab. We especially encourage applications from minorities and underrepresented groups.

The project combines ideas and methods from control theory and neuroscience to understand how biological nervous systems develop and maintain behaviour. The role involves developing mathematical models, simulations and analysing data to understand neural circuits. The successful applicant will be expected to attend local seminars/events, journal clubs, and other group-related activities and publish research in journals and conferences.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The successful applicant will have a Bachelors and/or Masters degree in neuroscience, physics/engineering, applied mathematics or a related subject and experience of project work in their field. They will also have excellent mathematical and programming skills ( eg Matlab, Python, C++) and excellent communication and organisational skills.
