Job description
This post will offer a great opportunity to join the thriving Data Science/AI community at The University of Manchester. The interdisciplinary project will allow the Research Assistant to understand the numerous prospects for individuals with computational skills in addressing questions in biology and/or health. Our hypothesis is that some diseases are caused by a number of variants, each of which has a different contribution to heritability. Disease would only be developed when the overall contribution of variants reached a particular threshold. This short project will use synthetic data and machine learning approaches in order to investigate the plausibility of this hypothesis, and if it can be applied to real biological data. The applicant should have a strong background on data simulation, modelling and machine learning approaches as well as proven skills in data presentation.
What you will get in return:
- Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
- Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
- Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
- Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
- Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
