Job description

About the Blavatnik School of Government
Our vision is of a world better led, a world better served and a world better governed. We are a global school committed to improving the quality of government and public policymaking worldwide, through three routes: teaching current and future leaders; generating research with impact; and engaging with governments and practitioners.
What we offer
The School is a collaborative, friendly, and dynamic department based in an award-winning building in Oxford. We host regular events and talks with well-known guest speakers – all of which are open to staff. On the social side, we have regular coffee/cake mornings for staff, a family-friendly Halloween event, and Christmas and summer parties.
As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:
  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days’ annual leave
  • Family leave schemes and a comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Cycle loan scheme and discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
  • Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs
  • Opportunities for remote working.
More information about working at the School can be found on our jobs page.
About the Role
The Blavatnik School of Government is looking for an enthusiastic, professional, highly organised Research and Policy Officer to work in this fast-paced and varied role at the heart of a new £30m six-year global research and policy initiative.
The What Works Hub on Global Education (WWH) aims to dramatically increase learning outcomes for children in developing countries by generating new evidence, and working with policymakers and NGOs to deliver the best teaching at scale.
As Research and Policy Officer, you will support two main pillars of work within the WWH: the Evidence Translation Pillar (Pillar 1) and the Evidence Capacity Building Pillar (Pillar 2). You will manage and contribute to key work streams within each pillar, and you will also work with the Executive Director on cross programme policy activities. Some of the core activities (though these may be adapted following the inception period) will involve conducting evidence synthesis and translation for the in-country embedded labs; managing a community of practice and synthesising lessons it generates; writing policy briefs and related outputs; managing partnerships and collaborators that are developing tools and databases with the WWH, and more. The role will involve a mix of partnerships and supporting policy engagement, research and writing, and management responsibilities. You may also contribute to reports, literature reviews, blogs, and other written outputs.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with a very ambitious and welcoming team, where professional excellence is valued, and where you will have opportunities to build your technical and management skills.
About You
You will be educated to the graduate level, with at least some knowledge of and experience in the international education sector. You will have strong organisational skills, strong writing skills, and strong relationship management and engagement skills. You will also have a flexible, can-do approach to work, self-motivation, and willingness to adapt to the changing needs and priorities of the program.
Application Process
You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
The closing date for applications is 12:00 noon (UK time) on Monday 25 September 2023.
