Job description
We are looking for a talented research analyst to join the financial services team. This role will involve writing across a range of consumer finance topics. The role will suit a candidate with a background in generating insight from a range of sources, as well as excellent writing and presentation skills. Experience of the financial services industry or adjacent sectors (eg economics) would be advantageous but not essential.
You will be working as part of a team of market analysts, sharing ideas and insight, but also taking ownership of specific financial services reports. You will have responsibility for researching, writing reports, dealing with client queries, and working with Mintel's in-house statisticians, sales team and marketing/PR teams.
This job is all about turning data and industry research into actionable insight, and sharing this insight in an engaging and authoritative way. Our best analysts are naturally curious, have a keen interest in people and what motivates them, and are able to combine hard data, trade research and category expertise to generate fresh insights. They're also natural communicators, able to engage and enthuse our clients, whether they're writing an in-depth report, having an informal conversation, or delivering a formal presentation.
The responsibilities
Report research and writing: You will be using a wide range of research tools, including primary and secondary sources
alongside quantitative and qualitative consumer research, to create insightful, relevant reports into a wide range of financial
services markets.
Insight generation: You'll need to be able to turn consumer research findings, market data and industry knowledge into
actionable insight both as part of the report writing process and in your interactions with clients.
Building relationships with clients and industry figures: Mintel's clients range from small marketing agencies to major
providers in the financial services industry. Information flows both ways. We help clients understand the markets in which
they or their clients are operating, but also draw on their knowledge as part of the report-writing process, conducting trade
interviews in order to gain insight into the key issues facing the industry.
Working with other Mintel teams: Analysts have daily contact with a wide range of colleagues in other areas of the
company. Key contacts include our global team of market analysts, research services team, who manage consumer
research and provide statistical support, our sales team, and our PR and marketing teams.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a strong communicator, both in person and on paper.
- Have the ability to work with data sets to tell a story.
- Have the ability to derive commercial insight from a wide range of data sources.
- Have a background in consumer research and understanding of consumer behaviour.
- Have great organisational skills and be able to take responsibility for key stages of the publishing process.
- Have the ability to talk knowledgeably and confidently with external clients and our internal teams about the
consumer financial services sector. - Have a genuine interest in consumer financial services.
