JOB ROLE: REPORTER (Defence)

REPORTS TO: Managing Editor

CONTRACT: Permanent, Full-time

START DATE: Induction meetings in April (start date to be discussed)

LOCATION: Working from home. Mandatory attendance at Quarterly company meetings.

The role of the Reporter is to generate relevant News division content across Shephard Media’s range of online news, analysis and digital newsletter products, both in a subject matter specialisation and on more general defence topics.


SKILLS/EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for candidates with:

  • At least 2 years’ B2B journalistic experience covering technical subject matter
  • a qualification in journalism, or equivalent work experience
  • a strong news sense and the ability to pursue and develop off-diary stories
  • a proven ability to build an extensive network of contacts within an industry or business sector
  • video or other broadcast experience (desirable)
  • excellent attention to detail combined with problem-solving and proof-reading skills;
  • digital editing skills (desirable);
  • experience of working effectively with colleagues across the entire business;
  • an ability to work productively in a remote working environment;
  • fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc);
  • experience/knowledge of the defence sector (or adjacent markets such as automotive or aerospace) is highly desirable as the successful candidate is expected to be or become a subject matter expert;
  • knowledge of search engine optimisation techniques for news content;
  • experience of using social media to increase audience and engagement for their own and colleagues’ stories.

  • a willingness to work within the EOS framework, which is the management “operating system” implemented by Shephard.
