Job description
Who are we?
Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km’s of pipes, to keep taps flowing and toilets flushing. We are an essential service and have operated throughout the Covid19 pandemic.
At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to daily life, and that means our business is always open.
Thames Water undertakes nearly one hundred thousand repair and maintenance jobs every year to keep the water flowing in our pipes. These jobs span across 55 different Highway Authorities, including TFL Red Routes.
What you’ll be doing:
As a Field Enabler, you’ll be part of Water Networks and will be key to ensuring that all repair jobs requiring a highway authority permit are appropriately surveyed. You will recommend the street work site setup to allow the repair to be planned correctly. You will take into consideration that those doing the work and the public remain safe all times from initial site set-up through to repair/backfill and reinstatement.
Your main tasks will include:
- Taking ownership with the coordination of all planned and reactive jobs ensuring all the prerequisite checks are compliant with Highways Street Work legislation, Health & Safety including our obligations under the CDM Regulations, and within service level agreements.
- Act as the primary liaison between Thames Water and key external stakeholders, for example Council’s, Highway Authorities, or other utilities to agree and enable any site access and/or considerations that are required to facilitate the repair.
- Work collaboratively with Repair and Maintenance Supervisors, to reduce aborted work and remove any blockers that will prevent the job from being completed ‘right first time’.
- Provide feedback and coaching to relevant internal stakeholders to identify areas of improvement and contribute to implement the change.
- Core working hours will be Monday to Friday, 7am – 5pm at 45 hours per week. Flexibility during peak demand or a high priority incident will be essential and overtime payments will apply for evening and weekend working.
We’re looking for you to:
- Have a Zero Compromise approach to H&S
- Be a good communicator
- Have a solution focussed attitude
- Have a can-do and positive attitude
- Have excellent time management
- Be Streetworks qualified (NRSWA minimum of unit 2 and 10)
- Hold a current EUSR water hygiene card
- Additional street work qualifications e.g., LANTRA M6/7 etc. would be considered advantageous
- Be able to produce accurate sketches for the purposes of CAD drawings
- Review CAD drawing for submitting to Highway Authorities
- Knowledge of road types and reinstatement would be advantageous
