This position will work Monday to Friday but will also be required to cover shifts for annual leave and any other absences across the control room team. This is an Entry level position, where full training can be provided.

The Role
We are looking for someone who has great IT skills, a good telephone manner, a diligent approach to Health and safety and the ability to keep calm in a safety critical environment. Full training will be provided on the core duties and responsibilities.
The Operational Controller will have the responsibility for operational decision making and will ensure that all operational activities across the Wood portfolio of wind and solar farm sites within the UK are co-ordinated, controlled and monitored in accordance with Wood procedures and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
As such, the Operational Controller is essential in ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations across the different sites within the UK.
To be successful in this role you do not have to have lots of previous experience in a control room setting – although previous renewables experience or knowledge would be an advantage.

Typical responsibilities
- Familiarise with processes and systems in relation to shift responsibilities, including major dynamic site issues such as TOC, grid outages, HV works, site curtailment requests from National Grid and weather safety alerts
- Assist the Supervisor/Senior Operational Controller with training of new Operational Controllers and their integration into the control room when on shift
- Decision maker during communications with National Grid to ensure compliance with the UK Grid Code and associated obligations as well as escalation responsibility to management team if required
- Identify issues with existing procedures/methods associated with the operational activity to ensure best practice is maintained across the portfolio
- On shift decision maker relating to the management of Wind Turbine Generation (WTG) remote reset protocols to maximise energy capture
- Perform fault logging to ensure contractual availability and fault trends can be accurately assessed
- Perform the real time updating of the energy trading IT systems
- Perform day-to-day data population, maintenance and integrity checks
- Compliance with all Health and Safety (H&S) and Quality legislation, company and any specific site requirements by the teams and reporting of any incidents to the PM updating and maintaining relevant systems
- Ensure system information is accurate to avoid excessive re-writing during the team audit process
- Complete data entries by the end of shift and that all relevant information is communicated at handover
- Build and maintain knowledge of renewable data management and performance assessment technologies
Expected:
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent IT skills particularly across the Microsoft Packages
- Report writing skills addressing performance, issues, events and wider implications
- Diligent approach to Health and Safety
Desirable:
- Previous experience within the wind turbine industry or similar environment
- Previous experience within a control room environment
- Awareness of all key renewable energy technologies
- Knowledge of the Wind Turbine Safety Rules
- Knowledge in the development, construction and operation of onshore and offshore renewable energy projects
