About the role

We are recruiting Relief Care Workers to work alongside our core care teams across InFocus campus to provide the very best person-centred care to the fabulous young people who access our services. We rely on our relief staff to cover vacancy gaps, holidays and other absences.

InFocus supports a large number of young people aged between 16 and 35, with vision impairment and complex sensory, physical and emotional needs. We provide hours of education, interventions to support vision impairment, mobility and habilitation training, a range of therapies, employability support, help with Braille and Access Technology and so much more. We have dedicated nursing, healthcare and care staff onsite 24/7.

This makes our setting truly unique and rewarding!

You will be under no obligation to accept shifts that do not fit in with your commitments, however, we are looking for individuals who are able to commit to working at least eight shifts per month. You must be willing to embrace all aspects of the Relief Care Worker role including but not limited to providing support with personal care, domestic tasks, and supporting individuals to access work, education and social opportunities. We value the personal skills and interests you bring to the role and to the lives of our young people, such as, sports, outdoor pursuits, creative arts, music and cooking to name but a few. We will do our best to work with you and offer you shifts that suit your personal circumstances. We have various shifts often requiring cover, including daytime, evening, weekends and nights.

Shifts will be agreed in advance so you can forward plan and get a good work life balance.

Education Support Worker

You can cover shifts in our college education where you will be supporting young people aged 16-25 to access the InFocus curriculum which has been specially designed to support progression for young people with a vision impairment and additional needs.

The support hours for college are 08.45 until 16.30 Monday to Friday.

Residential and Education Support Worker

We have a student village onsite where some of young people will reside after a day of learning in college. During the evenings and weekends our young people like to either chill out and socialise on campus or get out and explore Exeter city centre, or maybe just go for a walk into the Devon countryside.

The support hours for College Residential are on a shift basis between 07.00 – 23.00 Monday to Sunday.

St David’s House Support Worker

There are opportunities to support young adults aged 21-31 in St David’s House, which comprise of three lodges. Our residents have bespoke care package and enrichment programmes that support independence, develop daily living skills and support in accessing leisure, social and vocational opportunities in the community. So, retail therapy, a bite to eat down the pub, or a leisurely walk along the beach will definitely be on the list of things to do.

Adult Day Service (Jigsaw) Support Worker

You can support in Jigsaw, which is our day service centre for young adults aged 20–30. Jigsaw offers an array of activities for adults in the community who have significant support needs and vision impairment or multi-sensory impairment. If you’re a good storyteller, like gardening or are a bit crafty this is the place to be.

Landlord Supported Living Support Worker

We also have supported living accommodation for young people aged 18-30 who are looking at taking the next step to independence. Our supported living houses in the community provide accommodation for young adults with vision impairment and other complex needs to live as independently as possible, with just the right amount of support. If you’re into your music and love festivals, you’ll have lots to talk about with the residents.

Waking Nights Support Worker

Are you a night owl? If so, you could assist our waking nights team to support our young people working across the residential houses on campus. You will need to be awake throughout the night to support individuals as required.

The support hours for waking nights are 22.00 – 08.00 Monday to Sunday.
