Why this job matters

You’ll be responsible for overseeing compliance with our process for responding with Statutory Information Requests from Ofcom. This is a regulatory obligation that we take very seriously, and your role will be fundamental to ensuring that our processes meet the highest standards.

As you grow into the role, we will expect you to become increasingly involved in our regulatory development work. You will have a curiosity for telecommunications regulation and work with the Group Regulatory team in analytical work and spotting emerging linkages across the business. This will involve engagement with colleagues across BT, Ofcom and industry.

Finally, you’ll have an important role in supporting how we work as a function, including looking for and implementing improvements to project management, resourcing and agile ways of working.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing the internal process for preparing and submitting responses to Statutory Information Requests from Ofcom
  • Producing regular reports and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) about ongoing activities and how the process is working
  • Working with the Principal, Regulatory Affairs to improve workflows and SIR governance processes
  • Working with the wider team to co-ordinate and represent reg input on cross BT-Group projects
  • Managing communications within the function, for example by producing internal newsletters and regulatory updates
  • Provide analytical input and gather data and information to support BT’s interests in discussions with other industry players and customers
  • Building a network of contacts with other support functions such as legal, competition finance, regulatory compliance, public policy and operational teams to understand and develop regulatory issues, and gather information to inform regulatory policy development
  • Assist in the writing of responses to consultations, internal briefings and presentations on regulatory issues for both internal and external use
  • Providing project and portfolio management support to the Group Regulatory Affairs team on strategic projects and priorities.

The skills you need

  • Being organised – able to ensure that things are delivered on time in a robust way
  • Communication – able to develop different kinds of communications (visual, in drafting and verbal) that represent Regulatory Affairs to a range of different audiences
  • Influencing skills – able to build effective networks and collaborate with others within the company, with Ofcom and across the industry
  • Problem solving – able to understand complex subject matter and identify potential risks and opportunities
  • Improvement focus - you question and challenge the way things are done and work with others to make improvements.
  • Curiosity – have a genuine interest in the wider political and regulatory environment and desire to learn more. You know when to look at the big picture and gather new perspectives.
