Cancer Registrars II (CR II) must be Certified Tumor Registrars (CTR), carry out the responsibilities of performing medical record review from the Epic electronic medical record system, and complete data abstraction onto the CNEXT database. The data abstraction must meet requirements of the Commission on Cancer (CoC) to support the accreditation program and the Washington State Cancer Registry (WSCR) as required by state law.
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain CTR certification and required CEs
  • Abstract extensive clinical data relating to cancer cases in compliance with CoC and WSCR guidelines and requirements
  • Determine case reportability, provide support in case finding and follow ups, and work with team members to resolve any abstraction discrepancies
  • Perform concurrent data collection for Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS)
  • Attend monthly Cancer Registry meeting and participate in abstraction and reportability discussion
  • Participate in monthly SEER Educate training
  • Assist in release of information for research purposes that meets HIPAA guidelines
  • Generate suspense reports
  • Provide inputs to the Cancer Registry departmental reference materials
  • Assist in preparation for CoC Survey
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
  • 2+ years of experience working in Cancer Registry
  • Must have in depth knowledge and understanding of NAACCR data items, Solid Tumor Rules, AJCC staging guidelines, and SEER rules and standards.
  • Ability to utilize cancer registry resources such as CAForum and SEER Inquiries
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and interpret medical and treatment information
  • Excellent time management, attention to details, and organizational skills
  • Critical and analytical thinking
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong dedication to team success
  • Capable of working and making decisions independently
Preferred:
  • Experience working in hospital Cancer Registry setting
  • Knowledge of CNEXT database
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
This position is patient facing and/or requires access to Fred Hutch clinical facilities. As such, full COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment, without exception. Booster doses are strongly recommended but not required. The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.42 to $44.11 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
