About Us

Highland vets are part of the larger Lockwood Veterinary Group, we are a friendly, compassionate, progressive group. Established for over 25 years, we have 9 branches across the West Midlands, East Midlands, and Staffordshire.
Highland Vets is located in Burton Upon Trent, a market town in Staffordshire. The town is served by a railway station with good public transport links to Derby and Nottingham and is within driving distance of East Midlands airport and the Peak District national park.
The practice itself provides a spacious, light, and airy perfect working environment. We have large bright consultation rooms, a theatre, a prep room, an x-ray room and separate cattery and kennels, digital x-ray, ultrasound and an in-house lab. We are an RCVS accredited status and ISFM cat-friendly clinic. Our Burton Vets branch is just a couple of miles away and is always on hand to provide additional support.
We have a loyal client base, and the practice, with its dedicated, friendly, experienced team are highly trusted within the local community for providing exceptional veterinary care. We have the facilities and resources to enable our staff to work in a low stress, well organised, supportive, friendly, family feel atmosphere. Maintaining a good working environment, staff wellbeing and job satisfaction for all staff is of high importance to us which is proven in our low staff turnover and longevity in service, some of the team having been with the practice from the beginning.

About the Team and Culture

Across our group, the nursing teams include people with advanced Diplomas in a wide variety of areas including anaesthesia, Emergency and Critical Care, Feline Nursing and behaviour so this is a great opportunity for someone who wants to increase their skills and knowledge.
We have experienced Vets with interest/cert studying in Surgery, Medicine and Ophthalmology. We also have further cert holders in Surgery, Exotics and Imaging.
Our staff’s well-being is of great importance to us, we have a very approachable, supportive management team who support our team both inside and outside of the workplace. We endeavour to ensure that the practices have some downtime, whether it be closing the doors for a couple of hours for coffee and cake, a meal out or bowling. We work very closely with local charities and the community, sponsoring the town junior football team, visiting local schools to talk about working in a Vet practice and hosting fundraising events from dog shows to coffee mornings in practice.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and proactive nurse. The candidate must be a good team player, able to work on their own initiative, adaptable, flexible and have excellent all-round nursing and communication skills.
We are a training practice and although we do not have any students at the moment holding a clinical coach qualification or willing to train in the future would be advantageous but not necessary.
We are a large company, so there are potential internal progression opportunities.
