Patient Safety/Clinical Governance/Risk Managementcreating a positive evidence based culture ensuring guidelines and the implementations of recommendations from the Government or professional bodies are applied in relation to neonatal care. Conduct risk assessments to influence changes in practice. Maintain effective channels of communication to feedback to staff the outcomes of clinical incident investigations. contribute to trend reports.
Support neonatal management team to maintain service delivery and quality standards. supporting staff to reduce risk in clinical areas and to support the directorate management team in ensuring risks are on the risk register and appropriate action plans agreed. Supporting the team to ensure lessons learned are shared including examples of good practice. Clinical AuditLiaise with the Risk and Governance Manager, Midwifery and neonatal Matrons, the Trust Audit Team and clinical staff in maternity to identify suitable audit topics that reflect local and national priorities and risk management issues.
Information ManagementTo lead on analysing identifying and reporting risk trends and issues that may arise to senior members of the management team.To lead on presenting reports and feedback on the implementation of recommendations from multidisciplinary meetings Complaints Management Work in partnership with the Neonatal Matron/Clinical Lead to manage the complaints process. Co-ordinate the prompt and succinct management of neonatology complaints within required time frames. Maintain a high standard of investigation through the co-ordination of multi-professional responses.Ensure staff involved in the complaints process are supported in a sensitive manner.Produce timely reports which detail the themes and trends over designated reporting periods e.g., previous quarter.Regularly feedback to the Management Team and the staff regarding trends and themes or individual issues. Policy DevelopmentTo lead the review of neonatal guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures.
To lead the neonatal guidelines group to assist in influencing change to guidelines as a result of national confidential enquiries and or NICE guidance. Contribute to the development, review and dissemination of the maternity clinical risk management strategy within the maternity department. Be responsible for the guideline and policy tracking system to ensure reviews are undertaken as planned and progressed through the governance process for Neonatal guidelines. Litigation responsibilitiesContribute to the professional cohesive management of the litigation process in order to reduce the potentially negative impact to both the family and staff members.
Maintain confidentiality relating to patients, staff and the Trust at all times. Governance issuesMonitor the departments compliance in governance issues. Contribute to the Neonatology Health and Safety Review process. Support the Matron and the Ward Managers with contemporary governance issues as they arise; and assist in the production and monitoring of action plans.
Ensure Neonatal Business Continuity plans are in place and up to date. Support the Matron and Trusts Governance and Risk Lead in major escalation plans Clinical and leadership skillsTo deputise for the Clinical Risk & Governance Manager as required. Provide positive and effective nursing leadership to all members of staff to ensure the delivery of high standards of neonatal care. Provide leadership and support for clinical governance activities with the Neonatal service.
Education. Support the delivery of neonatal clinical governance and clinical audit training for new starters in neonatal nursing, midwifery and junior doctors. Facilitate reflective sessions with staff as appropriate to ensure that a positive learning environment is maintained. Conduct and advise on audits needed to monitor standards within the neonatal service.
