Job description

Evelina London Children’s Community Services, is seeking qualified nurses to join the Health Visiting service which is undergoing an exciting period of transformation. These posts are suitable for qualified nurses who aspire to become Health Visitors as the comprehensive training and development provided will equip the post holders with skills and knowledge required for working with families within the home and community setting.

We are a skill mix team that includes innovative support services such as the Early Intervention Health Visiting Service, who support our most complex families. Our Early Start Service, a dedicated resource working closely with Health Visiting Service to provide one-to-one support and advice to families who need additional support. Successful candidates will be supported to complete the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing course if interested.

The training on offer includes a Foundations in Children’s Community Care course which will start in February 2024 and an internal training programme that will cover practical elements of delivering the Healthy Child Programme 0 to 5. By the end of the training programme, the post holders will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate scope and responsibilities of an autonomous practitioner in the community setting
  • Critically analyse factors impacting children’s health in the community setting
  • Assess, plan and deliver evidenced-led community based care of the child and family
  • Critically evaluate the socio-political context for community based care
  • Deliver elements of the Healthy Child Programme as delegated by the Health Visitor.
  • We are looking for nurses who are excellent communicators with a desire to work in partnership with families to achieve the best health outcomes. The posts will suit nurses who want to develop their clinical and leadership skills within the community.

  • To lead on the immunisation for children under the age of 5 and the delivery of the BCG program in St Thomas’ hospital and other acute settings as required
