Job description
The post holder will work within the Urology team to deliver a high standard of care and support to patients with a urological malignancy. They will work as part of a wider MDT to support patients and their carers throughout their diagnostic, treatment and follow up pathway. This role is part of a team of Urology CNS’s and cancer support workers who deliver personalised and holistic care to both inpatients and outpatients and act as clinical experts to staff throughout the hospital in the management of these patients.
1. Work clinically as a Uro-Oncology CNS, delivering, maintaining high standards of care and contributing to the multi-disciplinary team at the RUH.
2. Support and contribute to the development and promotion of the nursing service, ensuring delivery of high quality, cost-effective care
3. Educate staff in understanding the care requirements of patients undergoing investigations and treatment
4. Act as a key-worker; delivering evidence based, personalised care through holistic needs assessment, care planning and evaluation of care through the running of nurse-led clinics for patients from diagnosis, through treatment and follow up.
5. Promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals. Ensuring accurate reports and advice/recommendations are sent to the patients and GP following clinics including the use of end of treatment summaries
6. Discuss different methods of care and treatment options with patients. Help them to reach an informed decision regarding the most appropriate care and treatment, ensuring informed consent to the procedure or treatment is given.
7. Develop general and department management skills and take part in unit cover.
8. Assist in promoting and maintaining an effective learning environment for staff, acting as a facilitator in the supervision and teaching of staff.
