An exciting opportunity for a permanent Sister/Charge Nurse has become available on Ward F6.
Ward F6 is a 27 bedded medicine ward for elderly patients. We are looking for a highly motivated registered nurse to support the Band 7 Senior Sister in leading and supporting the teams on the ward specialising in the care of the older person. You will act as a role model for the Trust values, set a standard in providing exceptional patient care and assist the Senior Sister in delivering targets set for the ward.
We can offer you the opportunity to develop your management and leadership skills and also develop your knowledge and skills in caring for patients with dementia and/or delirium.
This post involves a full range of shifts, including nights and weekends and will require participation in the nurse bleep holder rota.
Main duties of the job
To manage and co-ordinate nursing care and to provide a safe and effective level of patient care.
To assist with the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care using agreed frameworks.
To participate in the supervision and teaching of qualified and unqualified staff, including students.
To regularly take charge of the ward on an internal rotation system. To deputise for the Senior Sister across the full range of ward management responsibilities.

A welcome subsidy of £1000 is available to all Band 5 and Band 6 Nurses, Midwives, ODPs and Radiographers taking up substantive employment with the Trust.

Essential criteria
Current and relevant registration on NMC Register
Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
Desirable criteria
Relevant postgraduate qualification
Additional clinical qualification in specialist area
Dementia qualification
Experience

Experience of shift and ward management in absence of senior colleagues
Experience of mentoring and teaching junior staff
Experience in an acute elderly care environment
Experience of complex discharge planning issues
Experience of MDT working
Desirable criteria
Experience of representing senior sister/charge nurse during their absence
Previous experience of nurse led discharges
Knowledge
Essential criteria
Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing within the clinical area
Awareness of Trust and Ward/Department policies
Awareness of need to demonstrate a professional appearance and behaviours
Desirable criteria
Experience of managing Human Resource issues i.e. poor performance, sickness, recruitment and retention
