We are excited to announce that we have 2 band 5-6 development learning disability nurse vacancies, based at Finch Road, and covering citywide localities, due to internal development of existing staff members. You will be offered a comprehensive induction package and ongoing training and development to support with the role. If you are a newly qualified nurse, we can support with a preceptorship for progression in to a newly qualified nurse role. We have a comprehensive competency profile that will support with developing skills and knowledge for progressing to a band 6 role.
The post will involve holistic assessment of children with moderate to profound learning disabilities who have an additional need, such as behaviours that are challenging to manage or mental health challenges. You would spend time developing interventions to support young people and their families; risk assessing and care planning based on recognised evidence to deliver outcomes. You will get opportunity to work directly with children, young people and their families to meaningfully understand the difficulties that they experience.
You will be supported by a knowledgeable multi-disciplinary team, including psychologists, nurses, psychiatrists, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and highly skilled support workers. You will build relationships with other organisations, and build positive relationships with wider mental services, education settings and social care.
Current working pattern is Monday - Friday, 9-5. There would be an expectation of an agreed number of days of duty cover, where you are based in the shared office at Finch Road Primary Care Centre.
You would have an allocated caseload of children and young people, where you would complete assessment and identify a planned episode of care. You would hold clinical responsibility for these children and young people, and with the support of the multidisciplinary team you would work with the children, families and the networks around them to achieve identified goals.
You would need to work in a flexible way, with day to day work taking place in various environments, such as education settings, respite settings, family homes, primary care centres, and other locations as appropriate.
