Brief Description


This is an excellent opportunity for you to become instrumental in the strategy for the NW&C region, our move towards even better strategic work bank planning and the development of approaches that improve our delivery for passengers and freight users.

About the team

This role is an exciting opportunity to become instrumental in the way that we deliver CP7 and future control periods for the benefit of our customers and the country. We are looking for someone with the right skills, experience and attitude to join the team and take forwards our systems that we use for strategic planning of our (enhancement, renewals and maintenance) interventions on the infrastructure.

We are part of regional directorate for Safety and Engineering and our remit encompasses strategic planning of infrastructure interventions. That is why we are looking forward to welcoming you to the team if you have diversity of thought and approach (in addition to having the right skills and experience) to work with our business planning team and our analytics team, as well as the wider route and regional engineering and finance teams.

Key skills and experience

We have a number of envisaged upgrades and developments to the existing systems but we are looking for the right candidate who can challenge that thinking and, in time, become the guiding mind for the regional systems approach for our work bank systems. The system is implemented in Microsoft Power Apps and therefore the successful candidate will have clear and demonstrable experience in at least the following:

  • Development and successful implementation of systems in corporate environment
  • Microsoft Power BI and associated technologies
  • Development and successful implementation of data ETL processes in corporate environment
  • Stakeholder management and engagement skills in gathering requirements and rolling out systems or upgrades

Main activities and responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain a strategic plan for the systems architecture relating to NW&C asset infrastructure business planning and business management by engaging with stakeholders from the Region and from the wider Network Rail business.


2. Identify, research, and design process and technological improvements for the Regional system through the use of technical expertise, business knowledge and engaging with stakeholders.


3. Deliver the technological improvements to the Regional system, focusing on the AWS application. This will involve the physical implementation of works, so will require technical expertise as well as leadership skills.


4. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for the operating of the system and its data requirements. Ensure all material changes are communicated to users.

5. Control the management and development of analysis capability of asset management information and data in order to provide insights and knowledge to the right people at the right time, to support asset management decisions.

Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the pay range advertised.


Salary: : Band 2B, starting from £71,173 and raising to £80,060 per annum. Interviews are likely to take place on the 15th of September 2023.
