British Red Cross volunteers help thousands of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants every year enabling people to draw upon their own strengths to withstand crisis and rebuild their lives We are looking for volunteers with a range of skills to help the Red Cross support refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants in many ways, from giving advice on how people can access services to helping out with our activity projects or lending a hand at our drop in centres to give emergency support. Our Food Volunteers help with distributing food at our centres giving vital support to refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants. ## **We'd like you to:** - Volunteer on Fridays from 9:45 until 14:30 - Volunteer for a minimum of 12 months - Kitchen/group catering experience is desirable ## **We’re sorry but due to the nature of this role, we cannot accept applications from 16 and 17 year olds. You will be friendly and welcoming, and keen to get involved in our diverse service and activities. Our Food Volunteers help with food distribution for refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants at our centres. This is a time that can be particularly distressing for them, we aim to ease the process of adjusting to life in a new country through our support.
- Tasks: Helping with collecting, sorting and safe storage of food
Giving donated food to people using the centre
Helping to prepare and distribute hot food at a drop-in centre
Supporting the team with ad hoc tasks at the centre
- Skills: Strong communication skills and empathetic about the situation and needs of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants
Able to volunteer in a multicultural environment
Good teamwork skills and willing to support where needed
Knowledge of Food Safety Regulations would be helpful, but we can give you training
Speak English; knowledge of a foreign language would be helpful (particularly one used in the current local refugee population)
Emotionally resilient as you may need to deal with challenging or difficult situations
