Refuge Domestic Assistant
Cyfannol’s mission is to empower women and children to flourish in a life free from domestic abuse and sexual violence.
We offer a range of services throughout Gwent that encompass prevention, awareness-raising, safety, support and personal development opportunities for women and their children who have experienced violence against women, domestic abuse and/or sexual violence (VAWDASV)
Hours: 25 per week, Monday - Friday (times are negotiable)
Salary: £20,000 per annum, (pro-rated for part time employees)
Contract: Permanent
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and promote the organisation’s ethos, vision and values
- Keep abreast of regulation changes within HR related topics, attend training, develop networks to support development in the role
- Contribute to the protection and enhancement of the organisation’s reputation
- Participate in team meetings, supervision and appropriate training
- Work within the Organisation’s Policies and Procedures
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as required as requested by your line manager
Cleaning
- To deep clean private bedrooms/flats in between occupancies.
- To wash and change bed linen, towels, cot bedding and similar between occupancies.
- To maintain the cleanliness of the external area of the premises.
- To undertake ‘motivational cleaning’ exercises within communal areas with residents.
- To undertake cleaning of communal areas when necessary to maintain standards and minimise health and safety risks.
- To undertake deep cleaning on occasions of the properties to include ovens, windows and woodwork.
- Complete regular refuse disposal trips.
Health, Safety & Repairs
To carry out health and safety checks and property checks (internally and externally):
- Daily (visual checks);
- Weekly checks (e.g., firefighting equipment and alarms).
- Monthly Checks (e.g., written premises checks, emergency lighting).
- Fire Drills.
- Act as a Fire Warden for the building.
- Report all other repair/maintenance issues to landlords.
- Ensure that any remedial work required in respect of faults/deficiencies are reported and that the work takes place.
- Ensure all checks and actions taken are thoroughly recorded.
- Provide access to contractors attending buildings.
Stock Control
- Monitor stocks of consumables.
- Organise the purchase of all refuge stocks including bedding/towels, cleaning materials, food and welcome packs and other household items.
Low level assistance to women residing in refuge/accommodation projects
- Carry out some administrative duties on behalf of the team in relation to women’s case work.
- Occasionally accompany/transport women to appointments.
Other:
- To demonstrate and promote the organisation’s ethos, vision and values.
- To actively work in partnership with other agencies and organisations to achieve better outcomes for women and children affected by Domestic Abuse and sexual abuse.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision and appropriate training.
- To work within the organisations Policies and Procedures.
- Any other reasonable duties as required.
It may be necessary, following consultation, to amend the job description in light of experience and changing circumstances.

A current valid driving licence, access to a car and insurance covering business use is essential.
