Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Receptionist position on the Surgical Triage Unit and Ward C31. STU is a busy triage area, accepting adult surgical patients from the Emergency Department as well as from GPs and a variety of other routes. Ward C31 is a busy 24 bed unit, admitting patients from STU and providing their care.

We are an extremely busy area, with high numbers of admissions and discharges and ward pressures.

You will have good organisational skills and an excellent telephone manner. You must be able to manage your work load and prioritise effectively as well as having good communication skills and will be professional at all times. You must be committed to a high standard of patient care and safety.

As the first member of staff that many patients will encounter on the Surgical Triage Unit and C31, we are looking for someone welcoming, enthusiastic, hard working and organised to join our team.

Being situated at the front door means a very varied role day to day! You will be ensuring patients are admitted, transferred and discharged on Careflow in a timely manner, answering telephone calls, directing patients and relatives appropriately, filing and completing general administrative duties.

You must have a flexible attitude to work and be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Part time hours can be considered. As a triage and admissions unit, reception cover is required 7 days a week 24 hours a day. Unsocial hours (long shifts, days, nights, weekends and bank holidays) will be part of the contract.

In addition to the below summary you need to familiarise yourself with full job description and person specification documents attached to this advert.

STU and C31 are a fast paced environment, taking patients from the Emergency Department who require short stay care or are in need of further assessment.

We have a large team but we always look out for one another and are keen to develop each other, both professionally and personally. We pride ourselves on our teamwork and willingness to engage with each other to ensure that even the most difficult of shifts are managed.

Please do come and have a look around the unit as you consider applying for our job.

Please see the attached the Job Description and Person Specification for key duties and responsibilities.
