Job description
Due to internal career progression within the service, we are looking for a receptionist to join our well established team.
You will need to have the ability to remain calm under pressure whilst providing outstanding customer service to our patient population, work as part of a team and, in accordance to practice protocols, ensure we continue to deliver an efficient service.
Working Pattern : 30 hours per week, on a rota shift system covering the hours between 08:00am and 18:30pm, Monday-Friday.
The practice opens late 1 evening per week until 20:00pm and you will be expected to support this service on a rotational basis.

Duties will involve assisting patients both face-to-face and over the telephone; booking appointments, sending letters, processing prescriptions, scanning, data entry, processing post, liaising with local pharmacies, GP Practices and other Health Care Services.
The ideal candidate MUST have the following essential skills/attributes
- Reception experience/customer service
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Professional can do attitude
- Good IT skills and preferably experience of SystmOne
- Be Flexible to cover holidays and sickness
- Be Flexible in working pattern
We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.
During the pandemic response we have led the implementation of public vaccination centres in collaboration with partners across health and social care.

- Ensure an effective and efficient service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the Practice.
- Deal with all general enquiries,
- Arrange new and follow-up appointments.
- Using your own judgement and communication skills to ensure patients who need urgent care are prioritized in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
- Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
- Generate repeat prescription requests
- Carry out task instructed by clinicians
- Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non-General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.
- Covering colleagues holiday and sick cover as required.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail according to practice protocols.
- Record actions taken in patient record where appropriate or in accordance with practice protocols.
- Any other administration duties required by the practice.
