Job description

Are you a strong educational leader with expertise in Retail Marketing and a passion for degree apprenticeship provision?

Do you want to work for a student-focused, people-led, inclusive university that transforms lives, businesses and communities?

Then this opportunity could be for you.

With more than 11,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, the Faculty of Business and Law at Manchester Met is a popular choice for students.

The Faculty consists of our triple-accredited Business School, which is one of the top business schools in the UK, holding the globally recognised trio of accreditations from EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA, and the renowned Manchester Law School - one of only nine providers delivering the vocational component of the Bar Training Course (BTC).

With strong links to professional bodies, global industries and the professional community, more than 400 expert academic staff deliver well-rounded and quality teaching, informed by industry and employers.

We have a reputation for exceptional research impact at a regional, national and international level, focusing on subjects from business transformations to future economies, and contributing to UK Parliamentary Select Committees on topics including employment and welfare policy and the reform of the Gender Recognition Act. This was reflected in the Faculty's REF 2021 results, and we are ranked in the top 40 for research power.

Its Department of Marketing, International Business and Tourism is on an ambitious course to strengthen its profile as an inclusive and highly renowned department of marketing professional practice and research for places and the service sectors.

Enhancing our excellence around pillars of strength – the Institute of Place Management (IPM), consumer behaviour, digital marketing, retail, tourism – we deliver educational and research outcomes that respond to the national and global post-Covid revitalisation of the service sectors and local economies, and the big global challenges of sustainability, digital futures and industry 4.0.

Accredited by major professional bodies and embedded proudly in the dynamic and vibrant Manchester city region and with global networks, our vision is to create an integrated and impactful marketing knowledge and graduate pipeline that transforms lives, businesses and communities.

We are looking to appoint a Reader in Retail Marketing. You will be responsible for innovative leadership for our successful portfolio of Retail degree apprenticeship courses and shape the next generation of graduate Retail professionals. You will also be responsible for providing senior leadership support for all other degree apprenticeship provision across the department. You'll have a PhD, an excellent knowledge of degree apprenticeship standards and regulatory frameworks, proven experience of leading sizeable academic teams to deliver outstanding outcomes for students, and working in close partnership with Professional Services colleagues.

Because degree apprenticeships provision is a highly specialised educational area, we are looking for the very best talent. Therefore we are keen to hear from applicants who meet the criteria of Reader on either the Education, Pedagogy and Citizenship or the Research, Education and Citizenship career pathways.

To apply, please submit a covering letter, an up-to-date CV and (for Research applicants) your two best research publications through our recruitment portal.

Closing date is Monday 11 May 2023. Interviews will be held in person in Manchester between Tuesday 30 May and Friday 2 June 2023. We look forward to hearing from you.
