Based in our Rare Books stock processing team, you’ll be responsible for researching, pricing and providing summary details for vintage, pre-ISBN books to support sales.
This is a great opportunity to work with fellow book lovers in a quiet but fast-paced environment where you will receive training and grow your knowledge in this specialist area.
Using our in-house system you’ll review books received and either accept them into stock or re-allocate them for wholesale or recycling. Processing a target amount of books daily, you’ll accurately assign sales prices and record bibliographic data ready for the books to be listed by our logging team.
You’ll also work alongside colleagues to meet performance expectations, and understand how your day-to-day activities impact the wider business and profitability.
You will also be responsible for:
- Lifting and moving crates of books, using correct manual handling processes.
- Daily housekeeping of your working areas ensuring a safe work area
- Communicating effectively to ensure that relevant tasks are completed and any issues raised and resolved.
- Providing occasional cover for operational tasks such as stock sorting and distribution.
This role will suit an individual with a love of books and reading and a good understanding of why certain titles are desired by collectors. Whilst experience of book collecting and/or antique bookselling is not essential, it would be beneficial.
To succeed, you will also need:
- A higher or further education qualification in English or a humanities subject - desirable
- Fluent English language skills (reading and writing) are essential to the role.
- Accuracy and attention to detail, ideally from experience in a data entry role
- Good IT skills including data entry, using a handheld PDA, various Company software systems and the internet.
- A willingness to work to targets while maintaining a balance of quality and quantity.
