Description
The role of Radiographer is to provide effective, efficient and safe imaging services to meet the needs of inpatients and outpatients departments in line with best practice, and Schoen Clinic’s enhanced recovery pathways.
The Radiographer will be able to work across multiple modalities within the Imaging Department in addition to other areas of the hospital and be able to assess and organise the patient workload whilst meeting the highest standards of patient care.
Principle Duties
- To undertake all tasks professionally and taking legal responsibility for all aspects of work including the management of patients in your care.
- To maintain the highest standards of clinical care to inpatients and outpatients under your management.
- To assess the quality of images and provide support and advice to colleagues.
- Regularly undertake a range of radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations as per demand and with due attention to protocols.
- To be familiar with the range of technical applications available on imaging equipment.
- Must comply with the ionising radiation regulations- IR(ME)R 2000 & IRR 1999 - andlocal rules regarding radiation safety under which:You will act as an operator
You will have delegated authority as a practitioner for plain film referrals, assessing the clinical justification of radiography referralsYou will also be a source of advice for referrers
- Ensuring all image documentation is accurate and correct - patient details, side markers and any other annotation.
- Archiving images where appropriate and confirming examinations and any additional information documented in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Evaluate images for radiographic abnormalities/pathologies and escalate concerns in accordance with departmental procedure.
- Determine appropriate imaging techniques for certain indications or pathologies utilising knowledge acquired through experience and training.
- Review images and make sure that supplementary views or procedures are considered before the patient leaves the department.
- Ensure x-ray equipment is used in a safe manner and report any faults to the Head of Department.
- Report all clinical, non-clinical and radiation incidents in line with Policy promptly and co-operate with any investigation where needed.
- To ensure high standards of cleanliness and presentation are maintained at all times.
- To be responsible for the safe use of equipment used within the Imaging department, notifying the Imaging Manager of any equipment in need of repair or maintenance, and employing effective use of reporting system already in place.
- Undertake other duties that might be considered appropriate by the Imaging Manager, especially during busy periods.
- Contribute in the provision of an efficient and effective service and to be involved in the proposal/development and implementation of departmental policies.
- To be an active member of the department’s in service training program.
- To attend departmental colleague meetings regularly and any other meeting agreed with Imaging Manager.
- To participate in the departmental appraisal system.
- To demonstrate an understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Managementand apply it to the work environment.
- To comply with organisational and departmental policies and procedures and ensure that patient treatment notes are kept to a quality in line with recommendations of the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Imaging (CSP).
- To liaise with relevant refers, medical and nursing colleagues and other health care professionals who, maybe in direct contact with the post holder with regard with patient care
- To ensure timely and effective communication with the Imaging manager and senior/junior colleagues on all professional matters
Essential Skills:
- BSC Radiography on equivalent
- HCPC registered
- Enthusiastic & motivated
- Skills and knowledge up to date on current diagnostic practice
- Competencies across at least three of the following modalities; MRI, CT, Interventional radiography and x-ray
- Routine and non-routine radiographic techniques
- In depth knowledge of the justification process of the IR(ME)R and the impact within the imaging dept. and the protocols and guidelines
- Understanding of ongoing personal development requirements
- Confident communication skills – verbal and written
- Adaptable interpersonal skills
- Customer and patient focussed
- Understanding of private medicine
- Knowledge of clinical governance
- Understanding of the role of CQC
- Extensive orthopaedic/MSK
- Inpatient (including theatre) and outpatient
- Have a high technical standard and speed consistent with accuracy
- Independent sector experience
- Ability to work within a shift/on-call rota
Desirable Skills:
- Additional post-grad qualification
- Competency across all four modalities
- Experience with advanced orthopaedic radiographic techniques e.g. calibration devices, templating software, macro analysis
