About the Opportunity:
The Analytical Services department undertakes environmental and radiochemical analysis on a broad range of sample matrices for multiple client sectors. Supported by a sample preparation team, project managers and consultants the predominant activities are a mixture of consulting, sample preparation, chemical and radiochemical analyses.
Analytical testing plays an essential role in supporting the legal environmental compliance clients require when operating, decommissioning, and building nuclear facilities as well ensuring on-going safe working environments.
Based in Birchwood, Warrington, and acting as a key technical member of staff, the role is a hands-on role which includes using radiochemistry sample preparation, scintillation counting radiochemistry techniques and data analysis/interpretation. Analyses such as Sr-90, Actinide, and Uranium chemistry are key to this role.
In addition to performing analyses, developing, and validating radiochemistry test methods and acting as an authorised signatory for test reports is also an important part of the role.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
We are looking for individuals with some of the following skills and experience:
- Qualification in an appropriate scientific subject, preferably a Post-graduate Radiochemistry qualification.
- Experience in Sr-90, Sm-Pm, actinide, and uranyl chemistry and light scintillation counting.
- Experience in Radiochemistry method development and validation
- Experience working in a high throughput UKAS accredited laboratory
- Hands on experience with wet radiochemistry preparation methods and approaches
- Experience in applying test results to client requirements and report review
- Willingness to work in clean conditions in a controlled radioactive laboratory.
- A talent for practical subjects and enjoy ‘hands on’ working
