At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.
The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.
The role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Race Composite Build Technician to join our team. Reporting to the No.1 Mechanic, you will be responsible for the accurate assembly and servicing of composite build assemblies within the department.
Responsibilities will include:
- Complete assembly of wings, noses & all associated components, ensuring all company & department procedures and quality checks are adhered to.
- Setup & pressure tap testing of assemblies to required legality, Race Engineering & Aero specifications.
- Managing the progress of components & assemblies through all the different department processes, throughout every new component manufacture & turnaround.
- Maintaining accurate event reports for component & assembly mileages, as well as declarations of new components to the FIA, using the team’s processes.
- Managing the replacement of components to meet planned usage and mileage/stock limitations.
- Allocating and maintaining Heritage components and assemblies.
- Communication with trackside personnel on specs, trackside requirements & logistics.
- Constructive reporting of issues, build concerns or failures, using the team’s framework.
- Using SAP to create build sheets to manage the mileages of assembled components across the planned events & to create stores picks/shortage reports.
- Carrying out similar skilled duties and working closely within the composite department, as and when required.
- Maintaining good housekeeping at all times & reporting any safety concerns or issues using the company’s framework.
- To comply with the required daily time bookings using the team’s logging system.
What we are looking for:
The successful candidate will bring a wide range of experience and skills from an F1 background or similar and be able to combine them with a high attention to detail, they must be well organised with an ability & confidence to work under pressure, to very tight deadlines & as part of a team. They must have flexibility in hours & be highly driven to perform at the top level of motorsport.
Additional key skills and experience:
- Experience in mechanical & composite assemblies required.
- Good knowledge & understanding of mechanical drawings and build processes.
- Strong computer skills, SAP experience beneficial but not essential.
- An ability to communicate clearly and confidently with all members of the organisation.
- An ability to work with minimum supervision with a can-do attitude.
- Previous Formula one experience as a mechanic is essential.
