Join GSK’s Research and Development (R&D) Graduate Apprentice Programme – UK, 2023: Help us get ahead of disease together
A GSK apprenticeship gives you the chance to earn while you learn. This Apprenticeship lasts 2.5 years and is a practical, hands-on apprenticeship where you will have the opportunity to be involved in different aspects and processes required to bring medicinal product to market from the biostats perspective, all whilst actively studying towards your MSc degree.
We are looking for motivated individuals with a willingness and enthusiasm to learn, who are excited to develop practical and problems solving skills. No prior experience is required as you will be given full training.
You will be studying towards a MSc Medical Statistics degree from Strathclyde University. If you successfully complete your apprenticeship and demonstrate the qualities we are looking for, you may be offered the opportunity to go on to further education (TBC with the recruitment team).

On our 2.5-year programme you’ll receive tailored on-the-job training from industry experts from day one combined with early responsibility to help you to develop and progress.
You’ll be working towards a MSc Medical Statistic with a focus on Pharmaceutical R&D through online university-led learning sessions and activities. For more information see: Medical statistician / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
If you are offered a role; you will have a buddy or a mentor who will help you to prepare for joining GSK and will be there to offer support and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.
Education required:
An undergraduate degree in Statistics or a degree with a substantial statistics component.
Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

As a Statistician apprentice, you will be part of the Research & Development (R&D) function and you will be based at GSK House in London or Stevenage. You will be supporting the research, development, or manufacturing, and associated processes, required to bring a physical medicinal product to market.
We offer multiple locations (GSK House or Stevenage) for the Statistician Apprenticeship, therefore when you apply you will be able to select your preference of where you would like to be based if successful. We will accommodate your preference where possible.

What will you do?
Depending on the area you are assigned you will have the opportunity to get involved in many of the following activities.
- Learning about the process each drug or product follows through to full scale manufacturing
- Learning about the process each drug follows from FTIH through to being prescribed to patients in the real world and beyond.
- Provide statistical input to the design, analysis, reporting and interpretation of studies
- Learn to apply a wide range of methodologies including linear and non-linear modelling, design of experiments and analysis, equivalence testing, multivariate methods, non-parametric methods and modelling based on the Bayesian paradigm
- Learn to use and practically apply a wide range of statistical software including, but not necessarily limited to, SAS and R.
- Develop your leadership skills through collaborating with scientists, often in multidisciplinary teams, providing statistical support to project teams
- Develop your knowledge in medical statistics
