Join the GSK’s Laboratory IT Apprentice Programme – UK, 2023: Help us get ahead of disease together
A GSK apprenticeship gives you the chance to earn while you learn. This apprenticeship lasts for three years and is a practical, hands-on apprenticeship. You’ll receive tailored on-the-job training from industry experts from day one combined with early responsibility to help you to develop and progress.
You will be working towards Digital and technology solutions professional (integrated degree) / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
We are looking for motivated individuals with a willingness and enthusiasm to learn, who are excited to develop practical and problems solving skills. No prior experience is required as you will be given full training.
If you are offered a role; you will have a buddy or a mentor who will help you to prepare for joining GSK and will be there to offer support and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.
Education required:
- 3 A levels at grade BCC with at least one grade coming from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) subject
- 5 GCSEs at grades C / 4 or above (or equivalent) including English and Maths
Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English
Other requirements:
- If offered a position the candidate must be willing to enrol, and meet entry requirements, as stipulated for the BSc in Digital & Technology Solutions Level 6 at Anglia Ruskin University
- Must be able to commute on a daily basis to the Stevenage site

Ahead together with tailored training and career development
Based in Stevenage, you will learn how to build, install, configure and troubleshoot problems related to computer hardware and laboratory systems in a pharmaceutical R&D environment.
As an apprentice in Digital & Tech providing Lab and Engineering support, you will be part of a dedicated team supporting scientists globally as well as interacting with external vendors and key stakeholders. Managing and prioritizing large volume of incidents and requests on a regular basis as well as constantly seeking opportunities to lower cost of ownership, maintain accuracy of assets, securing devices and conduct Tech experiments from holistic thinking will be key to maximize value to R&D. Occasional travelling between local sites maybe required.
What will you do?
- Build/install/configure and troubleshoot problems related to computer hardware and laboratory systems in a Pharma R&D environment
- Document IT procedures for internal use
- Ensure network and backup needs of end users are being met related to lab PC connectivity
- Provide support for laboratory printing issues
- Manage hardware inventory Laptops and Desktop Systems
- Patch compile and manage licenses for PCs within laboratories
- Monitor support queue and address lab incidents locally supported
- Ensure security patches are in place monthly
- Work with a diverse range of internal customers, peers, external vendors and offshore colleagues
