Job Title: Quality Lab Technician, one year placement
Hours 40 hours per week
Shift Pattern Flexibility required to cover the following shifts:
AM shift 06.00 – 14.30
Night shift 22.00 – 06.30
PM shift 14.00 – 22.30

Job Purpose
This is a fantastic opportunity to work for the global Lactalis Group. Based in our quality department, your main duties will involve product sampling & testing within a framework of the site’s Food Safety Quality Management (FSQM) system, which encompasses HACCP and requirements of BRC, ISO 22000 and Organic standards.
Your duties will be varied and will include:
- Organoleptic, temperature & pH testing of finished products at start and end of product life
- Viscosity testing of finished products and intermediates
- Accelerated shelf-life testing programme
- On-line testing (incl. tasting, weight, label & packaging checks)
- Release of finished products for despatch and positive release of finished products with external warehouses, ensuring release of conforming products only. Reporting to Lab Manager/Supervisor any non-conforming products for decision on corrective actions.
- Quarantining of raw materials, intermediates, finished products and packaging to prevent the inadvertent release of non-conforming material, supporting the operations team in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Brix testing [by refractometer] of yogurt bases and finished products
- Dairy ingredients testing (sensory & chemical) when required
- Temperature checks of Finished Products (for Positive Release)
- Daily equipment calibration & temperature checks
- Sample collation & data entry [of products for external micro & chemical testing]
- Factory swabbing programme (micro & ATP)
- Water & air sampling
- COD and Chlorine testing
- Monitoring fermentation process (pH development) of Set Yogurt in liaison with Finished Goods & Chill team
Skills we need
Your interests will lay in food science & technology and laboratory work within a Quality environment. This position will suit a current student wishing to experience the working environment as part of a university degree/masters
You will be flexible, have an eye for detail, good written and oral communication skills along with good numeracy and literacy skills. Qualifications in Food Safety Level 3 & HACCP Level 3 are advantageous.
