What are we looking for
We have an opportunity for a Junior Quality Engineer. Within this role you will be expected to uphold the safety policies our company has created and oversee the product development process to ensure that all products meet quality standards. The role is based at our HQ in Bessemer Park, Sheffield and the hours are 37.5 per week working a weekly rotating two shift pattern 0600-1400 and 1400-2200.
You’ll be occasionally expected to liaise and visit suppliers, engage with external stakeholders and represent the values of ITM Power. You’ll be expected to understand and communicate issues and complete measurement comparisons feedback to ITM where necessary to ensure that the suppliers voice is heard within ITM.
You’ll be carrying out inspections and investigations, reporting and presenting findings to key stakeholders. You will be a go to person for quality problems within the company.
You will be or will be able to quickly become competent in applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) Measure System Analysis (MSA), and Gage Repeatability & reproducibility (G R&R).
You’ll also be expected to follow 5S principles and Health and Safety policies and related procedures.
You will be required to have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, being able to evidence your arguments and persuade, influence and motivate others outside of your immediate team. Building relationships across all key stakeholders and demonstrating a positive, can do – always results focused attitude.
Responsibilities
- Production quality support as required.
- Where non-conformances to specification requirements exist, conduct a basic level investigation and coordinate containment activities.
- Document Deviation via Non-conformance reports (NCR, 8D’s) communication to Production, Quality and Engineering.
- Inspection and verification for Internal & legislative requirements against Technical, Dimensional & Visual Specifications of
- Goods Receipt
- In process parts and assemblies
- Final Inspection
- Calibration of all company equipment.
- Support of the segregation, disposition and review of Non-conforming materials via inspection and Materials Review Board (MRB) processes.
- Carry out basic investigative work to assist engineers with analysis of the root cause of issues raised.
- Measurement Support:
- Programming of measurement machine
- PPAP/FAI parts check
- MSA evaluation
- Write work instructions where required.
- Identify and support Continuous Improvement activates.
- Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards within work area.
- Complete any other duty as reasonably expected.
About You
Knowledge and Experience
- Engineering qualification (HND or Degree) preferred.
- Formal Quality Control or Quality Assurance training preferred.
- Basic qualifications in maths, science and / or a relevant apprenticeship preferred.
- Auditing qualification an advantage.
- Full Clean Driving licence
Knowledge of, or capacity to learn:
- Understanding of ISO9001 and 8D/A3 activities.
- 3D measurements, measuring equipment CMM (Including programming), Vernier, micrometres height gauges, bore gauges, Thickness checking, surface finish etc.
- Knowledge of and adherence to safety standards.
- Knowledge of Quality planning and defect prevention tools (Poke yoke / FMEA / Control plans)
Experience of:
- Working with an ERP / MRP system.
- Working in a manufacturing / engineering environment.
- Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Working in a technical environment.
- Ways to promote a safe working practices are carried out to minimise risks to the job holder and/or colleagues, including identifying and reporting Safety, Health and Environment issues.
- Licensed for FLT an advantage.
Skills and Abilities
- Attention to detail.
- Listening, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret quality standards and work orders; ability to communicate clearly with production team on quality issues.
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
- Ability to read technical drawings.
- Good GDP/GMP.
- Proficient in the use of metrology tools.
- Computer literate with use of Microsoft Word and Excel an advantage.
- Analytical thinker.
- Good time management.
Ability to:
- multi-task, prioritize and adapt to shifting business priorities.
- work as part of a team.
- read and understand detailed engineering drawings.
- Mitutoyo or Polyworks experience an advantage.
- Occasionally travel within the UK and occasionally abroad if required.
