Job description
We are looking for a dynamic Quality Control Shift Leader to be part of the quality team in our new factory in Slough. The QCSL is responsible for ensuring that products meet the quality and food safety specifications set by the business and systematically meet our brand promise. Working together with the Factory Quality Technologist the QCSL is involved in developing the quality management system by taking ownership of essential tasks such as liaising with external labs to carry out our environmental monitoring and product testing, conducting GMP audits and inspections, and providing support to the production team.
Changing the world of pet food for good
We’re tails.com, a dog food subscription company with a big difference. We create truly tailored food for each and every dog we serve. We start by asking people a few simple questions about their dog. Then we use that information to create their dog’s unique tails.com recipe – so their dog gets exactly the nutrition they need, in the taste they love, delivered to their door every month. It’s clever stuff.
We’ve got ambitious plans. Having created an entirely new category in pet food, we’re now scaling fast in the UK and Europe – backed by Purina, one of the world’s largest pet food companies. You’ll join a bunch of smart people working towards the same goals – and a bunch of smart-ish dogs, all working on their own thing.
Together, we’ll change the world of pet food for good.
The role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and implementation of our quality processes and procedures in the factory. Working hours are 9am-5pm, but there is some flexibility with start and end times depending on what is needed in production, with the possibility of some working from home time. You will get the opportunity to work with a small team, where you can bring forward ideas and take part in the growth and scaling of a new factory.
The things you’ll do
Carry out quality monitoring tasks according to set schedule and protocol. This includes goods in checks, environmental monitoring, product monitoring, weekly GMP audits and in-process checks.
Administrative work such as logging lab results into the appropriate spreadsheets, saving testing certificates and reports, attending relevant meetings, and communicating effectively with team members through email and slack.
Support the establishment of an effective Pest Control system with the service supplier. Logging any pest sightings and liaising with pest control technicians.
Support Production to make sure that orders are produced correctly and to standard. Including occasionally carrying out hands on tasks such as printing, filling, mixing, heat sealing and packing when needed.
Support Logistics and planning by implementing the correct inward checks and ensure all stock is checked and recorded.
Work with the teams to improve environmental and equipment cleaning standards. Assist with training the staff responsible for cleaning and production.
Designated Slough Health & Safety Champion by carrying out compliance checks such as weekly fire alarm test and monthly first aid equipment inspection
The skills you’ll bring
Ability to work independently once proper training has been given.
Capable of splitting your time between hands-on work and administrative tasks.
Ability to use Google Sheets, Docs, Slides and Email.
Good personal organisation, proactiveness, planning, communication, numeracy, problem-solving, and IT skills.
What next?
If this sounds like it matches your experience and what you’d love to do, we can’t wait to hear from you! If you’re unsure whether you fit our criteria exactly, please get in touch anyway. And because we believe that diverse teams perform better, we’d especially love to hear from you if you’re from an under-represented demographic.

- Application screening.
- If selected, you will be sent a task to complete and send back.
- Video call with our Factory Quality Technologist to better understand your experience.
- If successful, the final stage will include a tour around our factory & a 45 minute interview with our Logistics Manager.

During your interview process you’ll meet some of our team with varying levels of responsibility and experience. We want to give every candidate a fair interview process and if you need any reasonable adjustments made, please let us know.
