Job description
With an office base at Glascoed, Usk, Monmouthshire, there will be a requirement to travel to suppliers throughout the Region, undertaking Government Quality Assurance Surveillance (GQAS). Areas of activity include marine systems, air-systems, explosives and propellants as well as general engineering and manufacturing.
Although your Permanent Duty Station will be in Glascoed, this role covers a wide area across South Wales such as Cardiff, Newport, Pontypool, Abergavenny, Merthyr Tydfil, Cardigan, Swansea as example.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this post will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Plan surveillance interventions and activities to best mitigate supplier and technical risk. Implements delivery of surveillance activities across a number of suppliers, managing allocation of resource to reflect priorities and plan workload.
- Conduct and manage the delivery of QA surveillance in support of risk management, supplier oversight/assurance, verification, validation and acceptance, and flight indemnity.
- Contribute to Quality investigations, root cause analysis, internal process performance improvement activities and supplier escalations/interventions.
- Develop GQA strategies within small to medium project areas seeking innovative opportunities for effective and efficient deployment of GQA resources across the supply chain.
This is an incredibly rewarding role where you will be empowered to work with a high degree of autonomy to deliver your workload. With a focus on assurance of defence equipment you will spend a lot of your time at defence suppliers in your area of responsibility. This will involve working in an industrial environment and may include periods in confined spaces, in the vicinity of operating machinery or at height. There will be a requirement to work flexibly and for short periods of overnight travel to support work programmes, customer meetings and training.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- A relevant Level 4 (HNC or higher) engineering or science qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience.
- Demonstrate a breadth of industry/engineering and quality assurance experience gained from involvement with multiple projects including supply chain engagement.
- Have experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes.
