Quality & Hygiene Technologist – Gateshead

Weekly hours and basis: 37.5, Monday – Friday, Permanent.
Job Description
To provide technical support to the factory management team and act as a link between the customer or retailer and factory. Provides the factory with clear standards based on customer, legal or VSF expectations, and generates compliance metrics against these standards. Provides guidance around all food safety, legality, integrity and quality issues within the factory, and offers support in the resolution of these issues.
Lead the hygiene agenda on site, ensuring the hygiene team are focussed on the right areas via a clear and focused schedule and OTIF performance is maintained. Deputises for the site Quality and Hygiene Manager where required.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure a consistent approach to factory and product assessment across all shifts, providing timely KPI reporting to internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Work with the Technical Managers to develop the Quality Culture within the site teams.
- Ensure the implementation of all relevant customer, third party and VSF codes of practice throughout the site.
- Support the site GMP auditing process – ensuring consistency across shifts and leading improvement plans to create robust corrective action plans.
- Ensure customer complaints are investigated and reported fully.
- Accountable for the site hygiene schedule.
- Works alongside Factory / Engineering / Hygiene Teams to ensure all pest control actions are closed out within acceptable timescale.
- Office support regarding factory flow, food safety incidents and introduction of new equipment.
- Act as point of contact for Pest control, Trading Standards and EHO. Develop strong relationships becoming a trusted site contact.

Qualifications and Experience
- Ideally qualified in a scientific or technical discipline.
- Previous Technical/Quality/Hygiene experience within a food or food manufacturing background.
- HACCP/COSSH/Internal audit trained
- Experience in customer facing roles including retailer audits.
- Strong understanding of product and environmental microbiological and allergen testing requirements.
- Ability to influence cross functional working across teams/sites
- Proven record in investigating and reducing factory complaint numbers
