Job description

We are looking to recruit and sponsor experienced nurses in the field of mental health or learning disability from outside of the UK. You may be a qualified General Healthcare Nurse with experience in Mental Health or Learning disability or hold an equivalent qualification.

We have numerous vacancies within care homes based in Todmorden, Littleborough, Burton-upon-Trent, Sheffield and Tipton.

What are we looking for:

Your personality and communication skills are crucial components of being a mental health nurse. You’ll need a good knowledge of mental health problems and how to apply it in practice. You’ll be warm and engaging while showing real empathy with residents and their individual circumstances. This may include the social stigma of mental health problems which can be as equally hard to overcome.

Key skills for mental health nurses

· The ability to empathise with people

· Good understanding of the theories of mental health and illness

· Excellent teamwork skills

· Verbal and written communication skills

· Resilience and the ability to maintain some psychological distance from your work

  • assessing and planning nursing care requirements

  • combating stigma and helping residents and their families manage it
  • administering medication
  • agreeing and reviewing care plans and monitoring progress
  • giving advice and arranging support for residents, relatives and carers
  • liaising with doctors, social workers, and other professionals
  • assessing treatment success at case conferences and meetings
  • writing and updating records
  • promoting quality of life
  • understanding of Mental health diagnoses
  • understanding of dementia and interventions
