Job description
About the role and our team
Join our team as a Qualified Animal Keeper at Curraghs Wildlife Park!
We are members of BIAZA and EAZA.
Working on the Animal Section, you will bring your knowledge and experience, and be able to make a difference.
At the Curraghs Wildlife Park we are all about Education, Conservation and Recreation, and you will have a passion for engaging visitors with nature and conservation issues, being confident, friendly and professional in all your communication.
A passion for animals and conservation and a desire to continually build knowledge and skills throughout your career is what underpins the desire to take this role. Our team is small and we have a lot of flexibility in how you want to take your career forward. Maybe you want to do more animal training, or love ZIMS; maybe you have a desire to become a studbook keeper, or love doing animal enclosure refurbishment for improved welfare. We are keen to discuss how coming here can boost your career. The Curraghs Wildlife Park is the only zoological collection on the Isle of Man and we have a small supportive and friendly team.
The whole Park staff work together as one team, recognising and appreciating individual strengths that contribute to continuous development and a great place to work.
Good problem solving skills, with the ability to implement practical solutions relating to the improvement of animal welfare, are key skills we’re looking for in this role, along with extensive knowledge of animal husbandry, ideally across a broad range of species. If you have any particular skills or areas of expertise, we would be most interested to hear about them so please mention these in your application.
What can this role offer me?
You can take advantage of the excellent opportunities we provide for personal and professional development. This includes access to all the great courses the Isle of Man Government offer through LEAD, our Learning, Education and Development Service.
We support continued Animal keeper personal development and, where appropriate, attendance at workshops and training, run by BIAZA and EAZA collections, is supported.
