Children, Retirement, and Counter Fraud (CRCF) directorate aligns with DWP’s new Service Excellence Group providing digital services on children, pensions, and cross-cutting services including fraud, error, debt and compliance.

Fraud, Error and Debt (FED)

Our services enable the prevention and detection of fraud and error within the benefits system. We enable the investigation of alleged fraud with effective case-tracking and support colleagues through providing access to a range of data services. We also provide services to allow customers to manage and pay back any debt owing to DWP.

The wider Debt Programme and Projects are being delivered by multi-functional teams, in varying stages of Development Phases and are often complex and providing DWP with Transformational services.

As part of your role, you will be playing a key part in the Digital Debt Management team delivering monthly releases supporting Business change requests.

Job description

Testing of business requirements to determine the scope, risks and test approach for all Debt Manager System (DMS) changes and notifications. Undertake various levels of functional, non-functional and integration testing to assure the successful implementation of releases to help enable Debt Management to meet their recovery targets and realise business improvement opportunities. In particular, to:

  • Provide detailed analysis of all faults identified, liaising where necessary with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure reasons for failure are properly communicated and remedial action agreed.
  • Attendance at technical workshops where appropriate
  • Code control and environment management for multiple test environments.
  • Deliver application testing needs for dependent digital products and services.
  • Produce and execute manual test scripts and expected results ensuring quality to agreed Acceptance Criteria.
  • Produce and execute Integration test to assure the required outcomes using various file formats (fixed, delimited, xml) in batch or real time using Message Queues/APIs.
  • Provide line management, coaching and mentoring to members of the testing team.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. Salary Information

Salary for this role is from £34,173 (Band min) to £34,971 (Band max).


Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.
