About the Opportunity

Hex partners with organisations and start ups to help define and build their brand and their product, and their launch and growth strategies. We collaborate closely with our clients to design, develop, build and launch high-touch applications that change the world.

This role is for a key individual contributor to ensure the quality of our web and hybrid applications for our clients, as well as Hex internal and external projects. This includes developing and maintaining a comprehensive test suite, conducting both manual and automated testing, and improving the scope, ability and impact of our QA function.

As a QA Engineer

You will:

  • Work with our Product and Engineering teams to understand and refine requirements and agree acceptance criteria
  • Plan, execute and document the testing of our software using a combination of manual and automated testing
  • Work collaboratively with Engineers as part of an agile team to test user stories as they’re being developed
  • Effectively log, triage and prioritise defects using Jira
  • Conduct regression testing activities in preparation for a release
  • Maintain and update our suite of regression scripts on a continual basis
  • Continuously improve the QA process, identify opportunities for automation and establish and maintain best practices and testing standards

Luke, our QA Lead, will be directly responsible for you at Hex. He’ll make sure you have everything you need to be successful in the role, including a comprehensive self development plan, mentoring and regular catch ups.

Outside of QA, you’ll be working closely and collaboratively with colleagues of all levels and experts in all functions, including Engineering, UX & UI design, project management, client services, and marketing and growth.

What You'll Bring


  • Strong, demonstrable expertise in the whole testing life cycle, including knowledge of various test methodologies, definition of test plans and test scripts, test execution and raising defects
  • Proven experience of testing complex user interfaces and applications
  • Experience working within agile product teams, using frameworks such as Kanban or Scrum, and testing stories as part of a sprint cycle
  • Experience testing API’s with tools such as Postman or ReadyAPI
  • Experience logging and managing defects in a tool such as Jira
  • Ability to assess the priority and severity of issues using a standard framework
  • Ability to accurately estimate tasks and meet agreed schedules
  • Strong proficiency in verbal and written English
  • Some high-level exposure to giving & receiving feedback with regard for both emotional and technical concerns
  • The ability to lead by example, seek to understand through active listening and questioning, actively address problems you identify and assume responsibility for your work

Within 1 month, you'll:

  • Learn about Hex and how we work
  • Have one-on-one's and pairing sessions with the people you'll be working closely with and get to know your Hex peers
  • Dive into the world of the clients and products that you’ll be working with
  • Contribute to the testing of several features, and conduct regression testing in preparation for a release


Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Establish strong async communication rhythms with your peers and leaders, practicing transparency and visibility in your progress against areas of focus
  • Gain a more robust understanding of the needs of your clients and products
  • Understand and contribute to our internal utilities, toolset and products
  • Solicit feedback from your peers, including other QA Engineers and teammates in your product team, and support your teammates through thoughtful feedback


Within 6 months, you'll:

  • Elevate the work of the team and become a subject matter expert in your products
  • Make significant impact for our team by being a key contributor to a QA led initiative to improve our software or processes to enable us to scale better as an organisation
  • Fortify relationships with cross functional team members as well as broaden your connections across the organisation
  • Participate in the interview process for other QA candidates
