Black Country Living Museum is seeking an experienced Public Programme Producer to support with the development and delivery of innovative and inspiring programmes for our audiences.

Throughout our 44-year history, Black Country Living Museum’s aim has always been clear: Inspiring your discovery of the Black Country. We ensure that the revolutionary story of the Black Country’s industrial landscape – the first ever of its kind in the UK – is celebrated by generations.


With our bostin’ seasonal, themed and high profile events, as well as being regularly used for TV and Film locations, BCLM is one of Europe’s most successful open-air museums.


We are currently embarking upon our largest development ever, with a £multi-million investment bringing our story into the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.


Based in the heart of the Black Country’s regeneration zone, we are within good commutable distance from many of the surrounding counties.


About the role


Being a part of a living history Museum, with a real lives, real stories focus, this role is rooted in research and the history, stories and characters of the Black Country.


As Public Programme Producer, you will play a key role in developing the Museum’s visitor engagement programmes and resources both in person and online. This will include public events, holiday activities, festivals, and for schools and lifelong learning.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing engaging scripts, activities and talking points for 1st and 3rd person interpretation
  • Selecting and working with entertainers, artists, re-enactors and volunteers in support of the events programme
  • Collaborating with colleagues from across the Museum, as well as external partners, to ensure programmes meet the creative brief
  • Assisting with identifying and developing themes, characters and stories
  • Liaising with communities to diversify our audience
  • Seeing projects through from conception to evaluation, including writing briefs and setting and meeting deadlines


About you


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A creative skill set that allows you to form innovative ideas, leading into a tangible programme
  • Experience of developing engaging and original content for a range of audiences
  • Excellent communication, collaborative and influencing skills across all levels of the business, including external stakeholders
  • A visitor-focused approach, with a commitment to meeting the needs of under-represented audiences
  • Strong project management experience and a proven record of delivering high quality results on time


Enthusiasm for the history of the Black Country and the aims of BCLM would be advantageous.
