An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 0.5 FTE Band 8a clinical psychology (permanent) position in Adult Haemoglobinopathy (sickle cell disease and thalassaemia). The post holder will provide a clinical psychology service for adults with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia in the East Midlands region.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist who is interested in expanding their experience in working with adults with long term physical health conditions.
This role could be combined very effectively with our 0.4 FTE 8a Clinical Psychologist in Paediatric Haemoglobinopathy which is being advertised at the same time to give a lifespan service post. It is essential that the post-holder has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and to be HCPC registered by the time of commencing in post. We would welcome applications from newly qualified psychologists or 3rd year trainees due to qualify this year.
The post holder will be employed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and will usually be based at the QMC Hospital and Derby Hospital but will be required to work at both the City and QMC Campuses.

The post will provide psychological input to adults with haemoglobinopathies (sickle cell and thalassaemia as both inpatient and outpatient work) and across clinics in Nottingham and Derby. The clinical psychologist will play a key part in the MDT case management of patients and will offer specialist advice, consultation and supervision to non-psychologists within the service. The post is mainly based at City Hospital with a requirement to travel to Royal Derby Hospital and a little work at QMC.

The successful applicant will be welcomed to the Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology within the trust. Currently we are a rapidly expanding service with over 30 Clinical Psychologists working in the department across a number of medical inpatient and outpatient services within the Trust . We have excellent links with the University of Nottingham and regional Clinical Psychology Doctorate Courses.
There is lots of scope for career development: from CPD and developing further skills in the specialty and supporting service development and innovation, to the chance to contribute to research, or policy work in psychological care for people with Sickle Cell & Thalassemia.
Appropriate clinical supervision will be provided by clinical psychologists working in the adult medical psychology service. Currently, the post will be supervised by a very experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist working within Clinical Haematology.

Person specification
Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Completed (or due to complete in 2023) post-graduate doctoral level DClinPsy in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS
- Current HCPC registration for Clinical Psychologist (or eligibility to qualify for registration in 2023)
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS/HCPC.
Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
- Previous training in medical psychology
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Training in the supervision of other psychological professionals
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with people with medical/chronic physical health conditions and across a range of severity and presentations.
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team, with other disciplines including medicine and nursing
- Experience of working with adults
- Experience of conducting risk assessments
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an acute hospital with patients with medical/chronic health conditions
- Experience of assessing and treating patients with haematological disorders, specifically haemoglobinopathies

- Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with haemoglobinopathies
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
