Job overview

It’s an exciting time to join our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Cornwall, where your clinical expertise, training and high level of specialist experience are recognised with a genuine commitment to your career development and continued learning.

We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist to join our North Cornwall CAMHS team, based in Launceston. We are open to applicants from Clinical Psychologists who feel ready for a Band 8a role, however we are also very happy to consider applicants who wish to consider a Developmental role. Our developmental role posts enable clinicians to start with us in a Band 7 job role, and receive coaching and supervision to enable them to achieve competence as an 8a psychologist over an 18 - 24 month period.

The posts involve offering assessment and intervention for our specialist ‘getting help’ and ‘getting more help’ pathways as well as consultation and support into our newly developed Early Help Network consultation meetings. The post therefore offers a good balance between early help/preventative/consultation work and highly specialist interventions for young people with more acute and complex needs.

Main duties of the job

To provide a qualified clinical psychology service to children and adolescent and their families with complex psychological problems, across all sectors of care: Highly providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on client’s psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

Working for our organisation

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Just over 532,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
