Job description
We’re delighted to be partnering with this long-established MGA, which as a result of increased business levels, is looking to appoint an experienced Underwriter.
Our client specialises in bespoke Property underwriting, with the Director citing, “we write non-standard, but not sub-standard business”. With an impressive broker panel and an enviable distribution channel, this company is known for insuring risks that many insurers shy away from due to their complex nature. For example, this company writes a lot of commercial and residential portfolio business, and some of these complex accounts may have exposure to the likes of Students, Asylum Seekers, DSS, and Empty Properties.
You’ll take responsibility for underwriting a portfolio of renewal business, and the complexity of these risks can very much be tailored to your previous experience and technical expertise. Liaising with your broker partners, you will ensure that existing business risks are rated appropriately, and that renewal income targets are achieved.
We must be clear that this business is NOT a corporate entity; it is more of an independent / boutique-type business, where you will enjoy a heightened level of autonomy. During our briefing call, the Director told us that whilst the successful candidate can expect to be busy in this role, “this company is as relaxed as you’re likely to find, and you can really shape your own role here.” People tend to find this environment very refreshing because the firm has a flat management structure, where staff are very much trusted to get on with their jobs.
It's essential that you have in-depth experience of dealing with Property insurance risks – ideally, commercial, although strong candidates from a Residential Property / High Net Worth background will be considered. It is likely that you are currently an Underwriter, although we are willing to consider technical brokers who have had good exposure to Property Owners risks. Just as importantly, you’ll be well-organised, analytical, with strong client-servicing skills.
Our client is based in the Nottingham area, and you are welcome to work in the office as much as you like. However, equally, should you so wish, you will have the ability to work predominantly from home, with only occasional meetings in the office required. For example, the last 2 employees who joined the company are on home-working contracts.
You will be rewarded with a competitive basic salary (Negotiable depending on experience), plus company benefits including profit share and health care insurance.
