The Role:
As a Property Surveyor, you can make your own powerful contribution. Helping to implement and develop effective systems to inspect the external and communal parts of properties, and identifying requirements for repairs and maintenance, you’ll ensure any work carried out is programmed according to urgency and priority. Working in collaboration with colleagues across Housing Services as you work to improve quality and customer satisfaction, you’ll manage a flexible approach to the deployment of resources, and respond effectively to fluctuations in workload.
We’ll expect you to highlight key investment needs, and help with the development of a team of technical staff to create a professional and high-performance culture. Working effectively with other teams within Housing Services to deliver a seamless, holistic service to customers will be key, as will your commitment to ensuring the Council’s policy for managing the health and safety of residents, staff and contractors is fully implemented.
Your other tasks will be many and varied, and include providing leadership and direction, driving service transformation and ensuring excellent collaborative working with Members and other stakeholders. You’ll also develop new partnerships, both within the council and with our external partners, and be responsible for managing other Property Surveyors and Trainee Property Surveyors.

About You:
With experience of the diagnosis of construction defects, the specification of work and the repair of residential buildings, you’ll have a good understanding of customer needs and the ability to communicate clearly to a range of people, via phone, in writing and face-to-face. Excellent IT skills are vital, as is the ability to manage and administer workflows, produce reports and compile management information.
We’ll expect you to be capable of reviewing performance data and use it to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction, and you should also be ready to manage and administer large repair and maintenance contracts. It’s vital that you have experience of applying the requirements of the CDM Regulations and relevant Health and Safety requirements to refurbishment activities, and the confidence to make complex technical and professional decisions.
You’ll be multi-tasking in a high-pressure environment, so the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work is essential, and as you’ll be working with a wide range of stakeholders and customers, tactful and diplomatic communication skills will also be extremely important.
