Job description
We require a proofreader to assist our pre-press department in reviewing manuscripts and marketing materials. The work will be computer-based and will comprise of conducting spot-checks and reviewing the standard of spelling and grammar in submitted manuscripts, as well as completing thorough proofreading of submitted works. You may also be required to proofread cover materials of books to be published, and resources and documents for use on our website. You will be required to write reports on your findings and maintain diligent records of the work undertaken.
Full training will be provided, but candidates should have:
- Excellent English literacy, writing and proofreading skills;
- Basic IT skills;
- A relevant university degree;
- The ability to work accurately and with a high attention to detail;
- Motivation and the ability to work without supervision.
Previous proofreading experience in an academic environment would be an advantage.
Immediate start.
As part of our interview process, all successful applicants will be required to sit a standardised proofreading test before being invited to interview. This should take no longer than 60 minutes.
Cambridge Scholars Publishing was founded in 2002, and publishes academic books serving global markets and authors worldwide. The publishing team is a small, friendly and hard-working group, based at the historic Lady Stephenson Library building on Welbeck Road, Newcastle. The offices have secure car parking, and are well-served by public transport.
