Initial Location of Post
Barnardo's has a service hub in the Black Country located in Halesowen from which our workers can operate. Travel across the Dudley Borough will be required. This could further be expanded into other neighbouring boroughs due to the nature of the work e.g. Sandwell, Wolverhampton
History of Service
We are a new Barnardo's Advocacy service in the Dudley Borough established in April 2022. We provide support to children and young people who are in the Care of the Local Authority. We are potentially looking to expand and widen the offer to include Children and Young People subject to Child In Need and Child Protection plans.
This post will form part of a wider range of specialist Mental Health and Well-Being offers delivered by Barnardo's across Dudley and the wider Black Country Locality. With the opportunity to link, learn and work across other service areas too.
Objectives of Service
- As a service we work through a trauma informed lens recognising the potential impact trauma can have when supporting vulnerable children.
- We make a difference to children and young people's lives by acting as an advocate.
- We strive to improve positive outcomes for children and young people
- The service aims to empower children and young people by having their voices heard and listened to through the advocacy process.
Initial Specific Responsibilities
To advocate on the behalf of children and young people and supporting them to have their voices heard and amplified, including in creative ways to the people who make decisions about them.
- To meet the needs of children and young people and respond to presenting issues.
- To Liaise with other professionals during referral and to resolve issues.
- Too work in partnership with external agencies such as Children's Social Care, Health and Education.
- To apply Safeguarding and Child Protection Procedures.
- To contribute to Service development.
- Willing to undertake training in specialist areas when requested
- To participate in Barnardo's supervision with the line manager and clinical supervision with an external supervisor.
- To relationship build with young people and to support them to attend key meeting.
- Promote and raise profile of the service to young people and professionals that support them.
- To champion Voice and Influence of the young person
